LinkedIn Poll Ideas

Free Runs in your browser No sign-up

A poll starts a conversation when the question is one your audience actually has an opinion on. Pick a topic and copy a ready question with its options. Every poll here fits LinkedIn's limits: 140 characters for the question and 30 for each option.

Pick a topic
  • How many days a week do you want to be in the office?

    • 0, fully remote
    • 1 to 2 days
    • 3 to 4 days
    • 5 days
  • What makes a hybrid team work best?

    • Shared office days
    • Clear written updates
    • Fewer, better meetings
    • Strong one-on-ones
  • Biggest downside of remote work for you?

    • Harder to switch off
    • Less mentoring
    • Slower decisions
    • None, I love it

HOW IT WORKS

Running a poll from idea to results

  1. 01

    Choose a topic

Go with the subject your audience talks about most, not the one you find most interesting.

  2. 02

    Copy the question and options

Paste them into a new LinkedIn poll and adjust the wording for your readers if you want.

  3. 03

    Add context, then stick around

Write a line on why you are asking, reply to the comments, and share what you learned once it closes.

EXAMPLES

Questions that get people talking

TopicQuestionWhy it works
Job search What got you your last job? Everyone has an answer, and the results are useful to readers
Leadership What do you value most in a manager? Personal, but safe to answer in public
Sales How many follow-ups before you stop? Practitioners love comparing habits
AI at work How do you use AI at work today? Timely, and the comments add detail
Remote work How many days a week are you in the office? Concrete, and people want to see how others compare
THE POLL FORMULA

One tap to answer, curious to see results

A good poll takes a second to answer and leaves people wanting to see what everyone else said. Ask about experience or preference, offer options that cover most answers, and put the context in the post text.

Tips that work

  • Do ask about things your audience has a real opinion on.
  • Do say in the post why you are asking.
  • Do post the results afterward with your own take.
  • Don't ask a question with an obvious right answer.
  • Don't run polls only to fish for engagement.
  • Don't write options that overlap, like "1 to 3" and "3 to 5".

Checklist before you post a poll

Does the question fit in 140 characters, and does each option fit in 30? Every idea on this page already does. If you edit one, keep it within those limits. Do you have two to four options that do not overlap? Is there an "other" or "it depends" option when answers really vary?

Is the question neutral? A leading question ("Do you agree that meetings waste time?") gets a skewed result and a few annoyed comments. Ask it straight and let people answer honestly.

Have you written a line of context above the poll? People answer more thoughtfully when they know why you care.

Poll or post: choosing the format

Use a poll when you want input. Habits, preferences and experiences make good polls. If your point needs explaining, write a post instead and end it with a question. Trying to squeeze an argument into four 30-character options never works well.

Go easy on frequency too. An occasional poll on a topic you care about reads like a real question. A poll every day starts to look like a tactic, and people stop answering.

Closing the loop

The best part of a poll comes after it ends. Share the results with your take on them: what surprised you, what it might mean for your field, and what you will do differently. That turns a one-tap question into a real piece of content.

It also shows people their answers mattered, which makes them more likely to vote next time. If the results were close, say so. If they surprised you, say that too.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long can a LinkedIn poll question be?

Up to 140 characters. Each option can be up to 30 characters, and a poll has two to four options.

How long should a poll run?

LinkedIn lets you choose the duration when you create the poll. Pick one that gives your audience time to see it.

Can I edit the poll ideas?

Yes. Adjust the wording to fit your audience; just keep within the character limits.

Do polls help reach?

Polls invite quick interaction, but what matters most is a question your audience genuinely cares about.

Is anything stored?

No. The ideas are built into the page and nothing you do is sent or saved.

Should I explain the poll in the post?

Yes. A line on why you are asking gives people context and invites better comments.

Can I see who voted for what?

As the author you can see who voted and their choice. Other viewers only see the totals, so keep questions to things people are comfortable answering.

Key terms
