LinkedIn Text Formatter
LinkedIn posts have no formatting buttons, but bold, italic and lists are still possible. Select some text, pick a style, and the formatter swaps in Unicode characters that look formatted and paste into LinkedIn exactly as you see them.
Styled letters are Unicode characters, so they paste into LinkedIn as they look here, on desktop and mobile.

Bold one line, not the whole post
Formatting earns its place when it guides the eye. Bold the hook or one key phrase, use a list for steps, and leave everything else plain. When the whole post is bold, nothing stands out and it gets harder to read.
Tips that work
- Do bold the first line so your hook stands out in the feed.
- Do turn steps, tips and takeaways into a list.
- Do leave an empty line between short paragraphs.
- Don't style whole paragraphs; screen readers may read styled letters one by one.
- Don't style hashtags, links or names people search for, since search reads plain letters.
- Don't use more than two styles in one post.
What is going on behind the bold
LinkedIn only accepts plain text in posts. No bold button, no Markdown. What looks like bold in someone's post is a set of Unicode characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block: letters that are drawn bold or italic by the font itself. Because they are real characters, they keep their look when copied and pasted, on desktop, iOS and Android.
The formatter does the swap for you. Select a phrase, pick a style, and each letter is replaced with its styled twin. Emoji, punctuation and spaces stay the same. Changed your mind? "Clear formatting" turns the selection back into plain letters, underline and strikethrough included.
Format for skimmers, not for search
Format when it helps someone skim. A bold first line can stop the scroll. A short list makes steps easy to follow. One italic word carries the tone you would use out loud. Long posts gain the most, because readers decide in the first lines whether to tap "see more".
Leave alone any word people need to find or hear read aloud. Search and some screen readers treat styled letters as different characters, so keep names, skills, hashtags and links plain. The same goes for your headline and most of your profile.
A quick editing order that works
Write first, format last. Get the message right in plain text, cut what does not earn its place, then bold the one line that matters most. Short sentences and white space do more for readability than any style ever will.
Check the length before you paste. Posts allow up to 3,000 characters, and the counter here counts the way LinkedIn does: one per character, styled letters and emoji included. If you are close to the limit, a list often says the same thing in fewer characters than full sentences.
Finally, paste the result into the Post Preview to see where "see more" falls on a phone. If your bold hook wraps onto a second line, shorten it.
Frequently asked questions
Does bold text work on the LinkedIn mobile app?
Yes. Styled letters are standard Unicode characters, so they show on desktop, iOS and Android without any app or extension.
What is the character limit for a LinkedIn post?
Up to 3,000 characters. The counter under the editor shows how many you have used, including styled letters and emoji.
Can I format text in comments and my About section?
Yes, the same characters work anywhere you can paste text. Use them sparingly in your profile, because search reads plain letters.
Is bold text bad for accessibility?
Some screen readers read styled letters one at a time or skip them. Style only short phrases and keep the key message in plain text.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The formatter runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device.
How do I remove formatting?
Select the styled text and choose "Clear formatting". It turns styled letters, underline and strikethrough back into plain text.
What is the difference between this and the Bold Text Generator?
The Bold Text Generator styles one phrase at a time and shows every style side by side. The formatter lets you style different parts of a full post and add lists in one place.
